Thanks for reading this far.
Who am I? I am a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner who has specialised in diabetes for over twenty-five years. I began working in diabetes because it enabled me to connect with people very directly, and to help them in ways that were quite tangible. As a nurse it is rare to make longer-term connections with clients, and in diabetes education I meet people with amazing resilience who strive every day to do the best they can. It’s so special to me that I am trusted by my clients to play a part in that.
I have completed a Graduate Certificate in Health Science (Diabetes Education) at Curtin University and Masters in Nursing (Nurse Practitioner) at Latrobe University. Much of my work is in the clinic setting, working directly with people who have diabetes. When I’m not in clinics I am teaching other health care professionals about diabetes, how to manage it and to approach people with diabetes in a compassionate and understanding way. I am also actively involved in the development of evidence based guidelines and educational materials for advocacy and professional bodies.
When not working I am mother to three gorgeous cats and daughter to two loving parents. My home in Brisbane has a lovely green oasis in the backyard that is dominated by a 60 year old jacaranda tree.
I look forward to helping you with your diabetes or helping you to support those you care about.
